Tir nan Og, Islay

Prior to the clearances, about 800 folk lived on the Oa and many of the ruined houses remain. The challenge was to design a modern house which respected the location and by careful use of materials and scale, ensure that it sits at peace in the heather clad hillside rather than shouting about its presence.
